THE COACH DAN PITTS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Coach Dan Pitts is considered one of the greatest coaches in Georgia high school football history. He coached the Mary Persons Bulldogs from 1959 to 1997 and complied a record of 346-109-4. His teams amassed 15 region championships and won the state championship in 1980. The Bulldogs were state runners up three times (1982, 1984, and 1993). Coach Pitts was one of the most influential citizens in the history of Forsyth and Monroe County.
A scholarship is being created in honor of Coach Pitts. It will be awarded annually to a former Mary Persons football player. In conjunction with the Forsyth-Monroe County Sports Hall Of Fame, a 501C3 (not-for-profit) organization is being created so that donations to the scholarship fund will be tax deductible. The plan is to have the 501C3 entity established by the end of 2024. In addition, a fundraising event is being planned for early 2025.
In the meantime, details and updates will be provided through local media as well as the Forsyth-Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame’s website and Facebook page.
